What the scheme may cover

Treatment Benefit is administered by the Department of Social Protection. Depending on eligibility and scheme rules, it may provide dental, optical and hearing-related benefits, as well as qualifying non-surgical hair replacement products.

  • Dental examination and support for specified treatment
  • Eyesight tests, spectacles or contact lens support
  • Hearing aids and repairs
  • Qualifying non-surgical hair replacement products

Eligibility depends on your PRSI record

The contribution conditions depend on your age and record. Insured employees, self-employed people, retired workers and, in some cases, a dependant spouse, civil partner or cohabitant may qualify. Do not assume eligibility from employment status alone.

Check before arranging treatment

The participating dentist, optician, ophthalmologist or audiologist usually checks eligibility before treatment using your PPS Number and date of birth. MyGovID may also be used to check certain entitlements online.

  • Ask the provider to confirm eligibility
  • Confirm what the scheme pays and any balance due
  • Keep approval and payment records
